[edit] Introduction to conformance testing
Conformance testing or type certification testing is used to determine whether a wireless terminal meets all specified standards that are relevant to its feature set.
Many test standards defining test procedures and setups have been specified and a device must pass all these tests in order to qualify for this certification. The standards are defined either by the standard’s maintainer organisations or by external organisations, with the specific aim of testing conformance and interoperability.
In the world of mobile device testing, organisations that play the greatest role in conformance testing are the Global Certification Forum (GCF), the PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) and CDMA Certification Forum (CCF).
Conformance testing is often performed by accredited test houses (such as Cetecom, SGS, RFI and others) to guarantee compliance. These tested products are then sold and delivered with the test house’s certification acknowledging compliancy to the set standards.
setcom, being an active member in the above mentioned regulatory boards provides test-suites that conform to the testing criteria set by these bodies. setcom’s comprehensive application testers - the S-CAT series multimedia test platforms perform research and development as well as conformance testing of mobile terminal applications complying to the wireless industry conformance test specifications.
Examples of technologies on which development or certification testing is carried out by the S-CAT series multimedia test platforms are MMS, VT, PoC, DM, Java, IMPS, DRM, Streaming, eMail, Browsing and IMS.
