[edit] Refugees
In 1978 Khama was awarded the Nansen Refugee Award for assisting refugees. I assume this is in reference to people escaping the war in Rhodesia: I know unofficially that the British Council were instrumental in funnelling refugees through Botswana, often to the UK where they were then offered further/higher education. Be nice to track something down on this, as it had a huge positive impact on Zimbabwe's supply of professionals (teachers, engineers, healthcare professionals...) after independence, as people returned from abroad.
