Servus Credit Union (until November 2006 known as Capital City Savings Credit Union) is a member-owned financial institution headquartered in Edmonton and the largest credit union in the province of Alberta.
Servus Credit Union traces its roots back to 1938, when the first credit union incorporated in Alberta. Since then, 75 different credit unions have combined to create Servus Credit Union.
Today, Servus Credit Union serves more than 193,000 members and 27 Alberta communities spanning the province.
Capital City Savings was the name given to an amalgamation of several credit unions by the Alberta government in 1987. However recent success led to growth and significant changes to the credit union, and the name 'Capital City' no longer reflects the nature of the credit union (which now serves over 27 different cities, towns and communities and is no longer limited to Edmonton and the Capital Region). On November 1, 2006, "Capital City Savings Credit Union" was officially renamed "Servus Credit Union".
[edit] Membership
Servus is a member of the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) and registered member with the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (CUDG), insuring 100% of deposits at all of Alberta's Credit Union's.
Servus is also listed as one of Canada's 50 best managed companies in Canada.[1]
