From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sergo Chakhoyan (born 1969) is an Armenian-born Australian weightlifter.

A world record holder, he claimed two gold medals at the 1994 and 2003 World Championships, and competed in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympic games. In Athens he went into the competition ranked first in the world, however failing to record a successful clean and jerk he bombed out of the competition. His final attempt of 207.5 kg would have given him the gold medal, which would have been Australia's first in weightlifting since 1984. He tested positive for doping at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane and was suspended for two years. In April 2007, he tested positive for doping again, disgracing the Australian Weightlifting Federation. He received a life ban which is mandatory for a second offence.
