Sergius Golowin was born 1930 in Prague, Czech Republic. In 1933, he and his mother, poet Alla von Steiger, went back to Switzerland, while Golowin’s father, a Russian sculptor, lived in Paris without the family.
After his schooldays, Golowin was a library assistant at the "Berner Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek" (literally: "Berne City- and University-Library"). He took part in the "Jugendbewegung". He participated one of Berne’s subcultural discussion circle of the fifties, "Tägel-Leist". From 1957 to 1968 Golowin worked as an archivist in Burgdorf. From 1971 to 1981 he was a "Grossrat" (a political office) of the party "Landesring der Unabhängigen" (was established by Gottlieb Duttweiler and others). In his LdU office, Golowin spoke out for youth culture and to solve ecologic problems. Afterwards, he was a free writer near Berne.
Sergius Golowin wrote numerous books and articles preferably about folklore and esoterism. For his merits in folklore and exploring the culture of those outsider men, who live at the borders of society, he got awarded with the price of the Schweizerische Schillerstiftung in 1974.
Sergius Golowin was a contemporary witness of many famous people and events: He helped Timothy Leary when in Swiss exile, was a friend of Friedrich Dürrenmatt and got portrayed by H.R. Giger. Golowin was at the first gig of Polo Hofers legendary Berne band "Rumpelstilz" and the band featured Golowin's election campaign. He even knew Martin "Tino" Schippert, founder of the Swiss Hells Angels.
In 1973 Golowin and the Band "die Kosmischen Kurieren" with Klaus Schulze made the record "Lord Krishna von Goloka". The record had improvised electronic sound with voice recordings of Golowin.
