Sérgio Cláudio dos Santos (Serginho for short; born June 27, 1971 in Nilópolis) is a Brazilian former footballer, who last played as a left winger and left back for A.C. Milan. His nickname is Il Concorde, due to his quick and tireless pace on the pitch.
[edit] Career
He played for Cruzeiro EC and Bahia, and moved to AC Milan from São Paulo FC in 1999. At Milan, Serginho has always been a fringe player, starting on the bench but usually being the first substitute. He contributed to Milan's 2003 UEFA Champions League victory over Juventus FC, scoring the first of Milan's three penalty scores in the shootout. 2005 was a reversal of fortune as Milan made the CL final again but lost on penalties to Liverpool FC, with Serginho whistling his shot over the crossbar.
The apex of Serginho's Milan career was when he scored a goal and contributed three assists in a 6-0 thrashing of crosstown rival Internazionale on May 11, 2001.
He earned ten caps with the Brazilian national team, scoring one goal.
On May 16, 2008 it was announced that Serginho and compatriot Cafu will be leaving Milan at the end of the season. Serginho also immediately announced his retirement at the end of the season. On May 18 he played the final minutes of the match against Udinese and appeared quite moved in front of the journalist at the end of the game.
