Sergei Preminin was a Russian sailor who sacrificed his life on submarine K-219 to shut down the 2 reactors by hand. Due to the changed pressure onboard the submarine the hatch from the reactor compartment was not able to open to let him out on 2 shut down reactor. He was later honoured with a statue in the dock where the submarine set sail.
