[edit] Biography
In 1999, before graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in the school’s newly created “Bachelor of Science in Public Relations,” Hicks left for NY to work as production assistant for MTV’s “Choose or Lose” 2000. Hicks returned to Texas to get her degree then immediately went back to NY late in 2001 to work as the Series Associate Producer for the award-winning MTV True Life documentary series.
While working for True Life, Hicks met humorist Tucker Max who has written about her multiple times in his highly popular blog[1][2] as well as in his New York Times Best Seller, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.[3]
From the True Life series Serena moved to the MTV Events Department. During that time she co-produced launch parties including the 1st & 2nd ever televised Hugh Hefner Playboy Mansion parties as well as Dave Chapelle’s 2nd season launch celebration.
In 2003, Hicks was featured on the CBS news report about dating in NYC[4]; and in 2007, Hicks left television production to focus on integrating brands into television, film and Broadway productions. HICKSabella Media Group is her recently-formed events, brand visibility, and PR agency.
