Serbian-Montenegrin unionism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Serbian-Montenegrin unionism is a political ideology which arose during and after the Montenegrin referendum on independence in 2006. It is usually promoted in Montenegro along with left-wing nationalists in Serbia which advocates Montenegro being in a federal political union with Serbia. The ideology is different than Greater Serbian nationalism, as it recognizes Montenegrins as a nation but also professes the closeness of the Serb and Montenegrin people, the need for unity due to the presence of Serbs in Montenegro and to a lesser extent, Montenegrins in Serbia, and recognizing Montenegro as an autonomous constituent state within a federation with Serbia. Parties which advocate the political union of Montenegro with Serbia include the People's Party of Montenegro, the People's Socialist Party of Montenegro and the Socialist People's Party of Montenegro.
