I'm Scott Preece. I'm a software engineer working on Linux for a major consumer-product manufacturer in central Illinois.
About thirty years ago I invented the idea of using a spreading activation model to do information retrieval (I didn't invent either spreading activation or information retrieval - just the idea of using spreading activation for searching, clustering, and indexing documents). This was an idea good enough to earn my PhD and some other researchers had a brief fling with it, but then it went quietly away while I went off to work on operating systems.
