Septimal sixth-tone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In music, septimal sixth-tone (or jubilisma) is an interval with the ratio of 50:49, which in just intonation is the difference between greater (10:7) and lesser (7:5) septimal tritones.

The widely used 12 equal temperament tempers out this interval, failing to distinguish between the two different tritones. 22-ET also tempers out this interval. 19-ET, 31-ET, 41-ET, and 53-ET do not temper out this interval, and thus treat the two tritones as distinct musical intervals.
