Seppo was married to Ulla Taalasmaa for nearly thirty years. However, the marriage ended in divorce in 2005, when Ulla's young lover Martti Viljanen turned out be Elina's father. Seppo felt deceived, also because Martti had been a good friend of his. In autumn 2006, Seppo announced that he wanted to return to his former wife. In April 2007, Ulla and Seppo came back together.

Kari is Ulla and Seppo's eldest son as well as the only son. After his birth Ulla had to take care of him by herself for a long time. That strained Ulla. When Seppo was much absent she went for comfort to Martti Viljanen and that is how Kari's younger sister Elina was conceived. Seppo and Kari has always had an awkward relationship. Among other things, Kari has been in the prison and involved in other questionable business, which the father disapproves. Oona, until now the only Seppo's grandchild was parented by Kari and Laura Kiviranta. Some time Kari lived in Tampere with his now ex-girlfriend Katja but now he has come back to live with his father.

Elina is Martti Viljanen and Ulla's daughter, However, she grew up thinking that Seppo is her father. They are very close. Elina was married with Markus Ekholm. She has a baby boy with Tuomo. The baby's name is Onni (means happiness).

Oona, Kari's daughter, is Seppo's grandchild. Oona currently lives at Seppo's home.
