Sempra Energy NYSE: SRE is a Fortune 500 San Diego, California-based energy services holding company that was founded in 1998 and is a major participant in natural gas markets. Sempra Energy’s primary subsidiaries are Southern California Gas Company, San Diego Gas & Electric, Sempra LNG, Sempra Pipelines & Storage, and Sempra Generation.
Sempra Energy is also in a joint venture with the Royal Bank of Scotland, called RBS Sempra Commodities LLC.
Sempra Energy has 13,500 employees and revenues of more than $11 billion (2007). The company serves more than 29 million people worldwide.

Sempra Energy was created through the 1998 merger of Los Angeles-based Pacific Enterprises, the parent company of Southern California Gas, and Enova Corporation, the parent company of San Diego Gas & Electric.
Sempra Metals Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sempra Energy, is a current member of British-based Global Clearing House LCH.Clearnet Limited.[2]
