[edit] History

Singer/lead guitarist Ferry Gouw arrived in London from his native Indonesia at the end of the 1990s. Soon after meeting Americans Chris Steele-Nicholson and Adriana Alba at film school, the group attempted to create a soundtrack for a friend's film. Jamming and experimenting in a rehearsal space from this period brought about the embryonic sounds of the Semifinalists' self-titled debut album[1].

After signing to V2, their debut album was released in 10 April 2006 on their own label imprint, Regal Bear[2].

The group have finished recording the follow up to their self titled debut album, entitled 2[3], is due out 9 June 2008[4]. A few new songs from the new album have been made available via the band's official MySpace.

[edit] Associated Acts

London art noise trio Test Icicles formed after Gouw's previous band band, Balls, had to disperse due to Ferry having to fly back home to Indonesia. With Ferry gone, Ball's members Sam Merhan and Rory Attwell turned to friend Devonte Hynes to fill Ferry's shoes. Keeping within the same tongue in cheek crude humour of Balls, they re-named themselves Test Icicles. Recently, Semifinalists singer Gouw has directed music videos for the latest musical project of Devonte Hynes, the folk-act Lightspeed Champion. Gouw directed the videos for Galaxy of the Lost and Midnight Surprise[5]. The group also toured with Hynes in 2007, where Hynes played with the group.
