Sembakkam is a panchayat town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Sembakkam had a population of 22,671. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sembakkam has an average literacy rate of 83%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 80%. In Sembakkam, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
