1927 – The French tried to beat Charles Lindbergh in the race for a Transatlantic flight, with their biplane The White Bird (L'Oiseau Blanc), piloted by WWI warhero Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli, but the plane and its crew disappeared over the Atlantic and were never heard from again. --El on ka 11:25, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
