Trigonometry |
One of the Hinducentric contributors to Indian mathematics also recently edited Trigonometric function and History of trigonometric functions. You might want to check those articles to see if his edits are accurate or if they're simply more falsehood and exaggeration. CiteCop 02:02, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the information about that user. The sentence that he added was in fact inaccurate and poorly sourced; so I have removed the sentence and placed a quote from A History of Mathematics on the talk page to justify the removal. Thanks for the tip. selfworm - just downgraded to version 0.4B! 02:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Subpage for speedy deletion? |
Several of your subpages - TemplatesCreated, Userboxes, Buddhism, NotCatholic, NotChristian, NotHindu, NotJewish, NotMuslim, NotSikh, and NotWiccan - are showing up at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. I presume you don't want them deleted, but I ask you to edit them in order to avoid them showing up there. - Nabla 00:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for informing me. I've never had any trouble with these userboxes before; I guess that it only takes one upset individual with too much time on their hands to cause problems for me. _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 05:34, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ah! Got it, now. I was doing a few speedy deletions and had just been through some multiple transclusion, and delete tags hidden in the middle of pages. So I entered your 'Userboxes' page and as it was a similar mess, I thought it was some mistake you made while creating them, so I was asking you to fix it. Taking now a second look at it I realised that it was another user tagging them, not a mistake. Given that they are not strictly templates I think they are not speedy deletable as such, instead they should go through WP:MfD if that user so wishes. I removed all the tags. Nabla 22:31, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for removing all of those tags and allowing me to keep my userboxes (a least for the foreseeable future). I greatly appreciate all of your help and hard work. You have made Wikipedia a place of freer expression._selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 00:25, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

- Hi, Selfworm. As a Christian, I feel a need to defend your position and your userboxes. Foremost: someone is manipulating the Wikipedia system in order to apply censorship (exactly the same kind of censorship that led to the execution of Jesus). The intent of Wikipedia is to collect information, and trying to manipulate the system to stop opinions, where they are legitimate, is not according to the principles of Wikipedia. Said: Rursus ☺ ★ 10:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Rursus. I greatly appreciate your support and your kind words. It people like yourself who help make Wikipedia a fairer and more open place for editors. And I am happy to see that despite our differing theological beliefs, we are still able to work together towards a common Wiki-goal of preventing unreasonable censorship. Thank you again for your support._selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 17:30, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Selfworm. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Ipu.gif) was found at the following location: User:Selfworm/TemplatesCreated. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Wonderful Front page |
Hi selfworm! I was wondering how you made your front page. If you have time to waste, can you teach me how? thanks!!!

- Sure I can teach you how to make a front page like that, just not all at once (I need sleep :( ). Right now I have finals so I can't help you for the next couple of days, but if you remind me later then I'll explain to you how I did it. In the mean time, you can look through my collection of templates and study their code.Good luck. _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 07:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Template:Click |
Hey there - was just perusing your page and noticed you use the {{click}} template on you toolbar - if you check out Template:Click you'll see that we're meant to be switching over to using <imagemap tags instead (I only know because I changed my userpage the other day to get rid of all the click templates). If you check out mw:Extension:ImageMap it has all the documentation you need to switch over, and I can assure you it's pretty easy to do. ...adam... (talk • contributions) 02:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for the advice adam. I've just finished changing over to the newer format and amazingly enough it looks exactly the same! :) _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 02:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Identical aint it! There seems to be a few browsers that don't like click - and it mucks up accessability - but it makes no difference if you aren't using parser functions or magic words, so I thought I'd spread the word. Glad to provide a service. ...adam... (talk • contributions) 02:44, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Al-Razi |
Thank you very much for the information you've added to the Al-Razi page. It's amazing the article had mentioned barely nothing about his harsh skepticism of Islam and religions in general. However, please rework the large block of text you've added. It's generally bad form to quote such a large amount of text. Is it verbatim, or are the elipses your own addition? If you need help cleaning up the humongous quote, I'm available. --C.Logan 23:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I will rework the text a little later when I have the time. In the meantime, you are more than welcome to help me rework the block of text. Take care. _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 23:10, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. The only problem here is that I don't have any clear access to the book you've used (although I actually considered using it to update the al-Razi page)... I'm sure it's not available online. For instance, the first block of indentation in the quote: is it this way in the book? It's clear that the second indent is a quotation within the quote, but the first indentation moves to quote form mid-sentence. It may be a format problem you overlooked, or it might be how the book's text presents itself- I'm not sure. Either way, I don't want to take too much liberty with quoted text: obviously, Hecht's words are good to rearrange into the paragraph, but Razi's should be left as they are.--C.Logan 23:32, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, the required parts of the book are fortunately available online. Here is a link to the book that I've referenced. Google Books: "Doubt: A History" p. 229. I'm pretty sure that it's the same edition of the book. Enjoy your read! _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 23:47, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Subring |
Hi, please note that according to the definition of a subring in Subring, a subring of a ring must contain 1. For example, in the ring of 2 by 2 matrices with real coefficients, those matrices with all coefficients zero except perhaps in the top lefthand corner form a ring (with unity), but not a subring of the ring of matrices, because the unit element is not the same. Please modify Subring and Subring test accordingly. Please note also that any result along these lines is exceedingly elementary, and therefore the name "subring test", particularly "the subring test", is likely to exist only within the confines of an individual math textbook, and is probably not notable enough to warrant an encyclopedia entry. Joeldl 15:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Joeldl. Please see this talk page and join the debate about whether or not rings should be defined with a multiplicative identity. I shall leave the pages unaltered until a consensus I reached, and if the consensus is that all rings should have unity then I will change those pages to fit that definition of a ring. Thank you for you input. _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 19:09, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- In the meantime, please make it clear that your definition refers to the non-unit definition when you use it.

- I have already stated on the subring test article that the theorem applies to rings defined without a unity._selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 19:16, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi again. Sorry for not being clear about the changes I made to Ring (mathematics). I added the fact that na could be interpreted in two different ways. Once that is done, there is no need for the two facts I deleted because they result from this fact and the fact that the ring element n defined as n1 commutes with everything, which I also added. Joeldl 22:23, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, but I would recommend that you clarify the sentence that you added. Maybe give a more concrete definition of na. I believe that na is defined recursively. _selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 00:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I just wanted to give a rough idea of what was meant, as people will figure out the formal definition by induction easily from what's given. If you want to write a definition by induction, I think it should be given at Group and linked to. Joeldl 00:22, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Subring test |
Hi. Thank you for the new Subring test article. I have one suggestion about writing math. I think it is rather important to use commas where appropriate, it make the text easier to understand and mathematically correct. I put in around 20 commas in that article I think, I hope I improved it. Thanks and hope you like it here. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 22:34, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the work that you've done on that article; you've really made it look a lot nicer._selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 22:39, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Why have you changed "assumed" to "shown"? The susset 2Z of Z satisfies the hypotheses but not the conclusion, so it cannot be "shown" that the unit belongs to it. Joeldl 23:19, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've reverted my edit and it now reads "assumed"_selfworm_ ( Talk · Contribs )_ 23:33, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

- Hello Rugby471
I did not revert your action. If you look into the history of the user box then you will clearly see that Raerth reverted your picture to the previous one.
The humor that is found in the current picture, and not in your picture, is that the question asks you to "find X", by which it means to "solve for the value of X". But, the person who wrote on the paper misunderstood the question to mean "find the symbol X on this paper". That is the humor of this picture; humor that is not present in your picture. Take care. selfwormTalk) 18:35, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion |
Hi, one of your subpages (User:Selfworm/VandalizeMe was recently proposed for speedy deletion. I removed the speedy tag since it wasn't you who placed it. If you want the page deleted, just let me know. Best wishes/ Pax:Vobiscum 17:22, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't see any valid reason for the page to be deleted. Yes, wikipedia is supposed to be focused on producing an encyclopedia, but there there is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun at the same time. Pax:Vobiscum 20:28, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again Pax:Vobiscum,
I've left a message on Ryulong's talk page defending the VandalizeMe page and now I am waiting for a response. If Ryulong decides that (s)he does not agree with my reasons and remains firm in his/her choice to delete it then what are my options? Is it possible for me I ask the Wikipedia community for their opinion on whether or not the VandalizeMe page should have been deleted? I am only a beginner when it comes to understanding Wikipedia policy and any help would be greatly appreciated. And also thank you for your input on this matter. selfwormTalk) 20:39, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- My suggestion is to just leave the issue, no reason to make a big deal out of it. Normally you go to Wikipedia:Deletion review if you disagree with a deletion. In this case no valuable history was lost (I assume?) so I see no reason to go through that process. Your page is up again and ready to be vandalized and I don't think he'll delete it again. Pax:Vobiscum 20:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again,
Thank you for your advice, but isn't it against Wikipedia's policy to have a regular user recreate a page that was deleted by an administrator? If so then I don't want to risk getting blocked because of this page. Also, I've had an encounter with Ryulong before so he may be checking my userspace periodically (or then again these two encounters with him may be a complete coincidence), in which case he may likely delete it again. I've left a response on Ryulong's talk page and he has yet to respond.
I feel that it would be best if I resolved this issue once and for all and not have to worry about it anymore, so I am going to go through the deletion review process. I'd like to thank you for your help, I truly appreciate it. selfwormTalk) 23:20, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

But then I noticed that some of the text from the first Boyer quote had been inadvertently included with the second quote – or is it the other way around? I don't have a copy of the book, so I can't tell.
