This is a documentation subpage for Template:Self-reference (see that page for the template itself).
It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

The default words "article or section" are replaceable: {{self-reference|table}} produces:

 This table may contain the type of self-references to be avoided (references to "Wikipedia"). Note that neutral references, such as references to the article itself or to other articles, are acceptable.
Please address the problem by removing the word "Wikipedia" or by moving the page into Wikipedia:Project namespace. See the talk page for details.

A date parameter can also be used to inform other editors of the time the tag has been in place: {{self-reference|article|date=June 2008}} produces something like:

 This article may contain the type of self-references to be avoided (references to "Wikipedia"). Note that neutral references, such as references to the article itself or to other articles, are acceptable.

This template will categorize articles into Category:Articles containing self-references.
