This is a poor definition, plus a warning that amounts to self-improvement advice and probably doesn't belong in an encyclopedia, but isn't harmful. Btw, according to my dictionary "self-deception" is hyphenated. Onebyone 14:18, 11 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I agree with Onebyone that the defention must be improved. What should be added is the term True believer syndrome Andries 24 Jan 2004 (UTC)

The factual accuracy of this article is disputed. It's a bit tough having to argue against the above label, especially when no one has stated before what exactly is, or might be, factually inaccurate about this article. Please do not add it again without giving details. <KF> 16:17, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Counter-point to: "as everyone has emotional attachments to beliefs"

Nihilism (in the delirium sense of the word). Schizoaffective and otherwise schiz-prefix mental disorders. Broadly overgeneralized (probably). --24.22.227.53 05:10, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Denial

How is self-deception different from denial? --Slashdevslashtty 03:08, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I suppose denial is a type of self-deception, but self deception is a broader category. 66.24.236.62 05:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Methods of prevention

Perhaps it would be beneficial to list some methods of preventing this on this page, as well as different professional opinions on how much self-deception plays into one's thought patterns? 66.24.236.62 05:10, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
