Outside view of Selland Arena
The Selland Arena is an 11,300-seat multi-purpose arena built in 1966 in Fresno, California. It is named after former Fresno mayor Arthur Selland and has had over ten-million people walk through its doors in its over forty year history. Currently the arena is operated by SMG under contract from the City of Fresno. The arena is home to the Central Valley Coyotes arena football team and was home to the Fresno Falcons ice hockey team when in the West Coast Hockey League, although the team announced it will return to the arena in 2008. [1] It was also home to the Fresno State basketball program until it moved to the on-campus Save Mart Center in 2003. Events that have taken place at the arena include the WWF Royal Rumble 1996, Fully Loaded 1998, and the 2000 Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament. It also has hosted the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section Basketball Finals since 2004 and the annual California Future Farmers of America State Conference.
The arena originally had a 6,500 seating capacity, but a $10 million expansion project in 1981 increased the seating to its current capacity. [2] It underwent an additional $15 million renovation in November 2006.
