Selino

Selino is a province and historical region of Crete. It is located in the remote southwestern corner of the island, in Chania Prefecture. It is a rugged and remote area in the foothills of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) and also includes Gavdos, an island to the south of Crete considered the southernmost point in Europe.

The province is divided into three municipalities and a community:

• Anatoliko Selino
• Kandanos
• Pelekanos
• Gavdos - island and community

The region's name derives from the Venetian castle at Paleochora, 'Kastello Selino'. Paleochora, now a resort, and the capital Kandanos are the two principal towns in Selino. Sougia is a small but growing resort.
