Selial

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Selial is an Aachim character in Ian Irvine's The View from the Mirror quartet.

Selial is an old woman with silver hair, that flows out from her head in waves. She is small for an Aachim and gives off a vibe of impartial justice as the leader of the Syndics. She is the one who leads Karan's trial at Shazmak and who eventually finds her innocent.

She survives the sacking of Shazmak and joins up with Tensors band. She is relieved to see Malien is there and together hope to remove Tensor from leadership. When they arrive at Katazza Malien and Selial attempt to end Tensor before he releases Rulke to the world, but Selial's nerve breaks and the attack fails. Malien is gravely injured.

When Tensor releases Rulke and the company fails to end him, Selial cannot forgive herself and quietly heaves her life away. Malien takes over leadership of the Aachim and Selial announces she will allow herself to lose her grip on life when they reach The Rainbow Bridge.

When they arrive there Selial asks Karan, Llian and Malien to stand by her while she dies. Llian and Karan each take one of her hands and she uses her Art to show them the ghost of the bridge, a sight none on Santhenar would ever see again, as she alone knew how to do it, as her grandmother was the architect of the bridge.

Selial dies standing out over the bridge and the Aachim carve a section out of the remaining pillars of the Rainbow Bridge and lay Selial inside. Each of the Aachim say something to their former leader at her funeral, Malien last of all.
