Selenium hexafluoride is the chemical compound of formula SeF6. It is a colourless gas. It can be prepared from the elements or by the reaction of bromine trifluoride, BrF3 and selenium dioxide. It is similar to sulfur hexafluoride, as it is octahedral (Se-F bond length 168.8pm, and under normal conditions is inert to water.[1] The gas can be passed through 10% NaOH or KOH without change.[2]
