I don't really have any sources to back this up, but a celebratory or "good luck" color combination in Japan is red and white; I wouldn't be surprised if that was more of a eason for the celebratory rice being red than a woman attaining menarch... 210.250.9.162 (talk) 03:54, 9 April 2008 (UTC) Scott
