[edit] History of the School

Construction of the school was completed in November 1993. When the school was first established, it was known as Sekolah Menengah Kampong Pandan. It originally catered for only secondary students. In 1997, a sixth form centre was created within the school. This allowed students to pursue their pre-university studies in Kuala Belait, whereas all previous sixth form education in Brunei had been offered only in Bandar Seri Begawan. Presently, the school offers PMB, BGCE "O", and "A" level courses.

[edit] Subjects Offered in the Sixth Form

Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali currently offers 13 subjects for the GCE "A" Level course, namely:

1. Mathematics
2. Physics
3. Chemistry
4. Biology
5. Accounting
6. Economics
7. Business Studies
8. Sociology
9. History
10. Geography
11. Bahasa Melayu
12. Syariah

General Paper (commonly GP) is a compulsory AS Level subject for all Sixth Form students, for which a credit 6 in BGCE "O" English Language is necessary. Sixth form students without a credit 6 in that subject usually sit again for it in June or November of their lower sixth year to enable them to undertake the GP course beginning in upper sixth.
