Sekkizhar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sekkizhar was one of the well known poets of Tamil literature.[1] He compiled and wrote, in the Periya Puranam, the life history of sixty-three famous saivite nayanmars (followers of Shiva) in Tamil poetic form. Sekkizhar was a chief minister in the court of Kulothunga Chola II (of the Chola Kingdom). Periya Puranam is the 12th thirumurai (Tamil mantra used to worship Shiva).

The Sekkizhar Research Centre conducts research on his epic Periya Puranam and the period, art, culture, civilization, rituals, socioeconomic conditions, and religion/secularism of the times and place surrounding it.
