Adventure games in Japan, known as ADV, are very different from their Western counterparts.
While other types of adventure games are also produced in Japan (such as survival horror games, which they consider to be a sub-genre of adventure games), this article focuses on the sub-genres that are almost entirely exclusive to Japan.
