Born in Pakistan, Sehr spent her first 18 years in Karachi, Pakistan before moving to Boston, MA to study. Her desire to represent Pakistan on an international level stemmed from her desire to help evolve Pakistan as a whole. "The pageant was a first for me, and all in all was an amazing experience. This pageant is a great platform which gives Pakistani women the opportunity to emerge as a voice for their community and address issues that need to be dealt with."

Sehr Mahmood went on to compete in the Miss Earth 2006 pageant held in Manila, Philippines as well as Queen of the World in 2006. She took home the Best in Media and Queen of Elegance titles respectively.

Sehr Mahmood had just bought her honors degree in Economics at the time of her crowning and is now looking to gain her MBA in business.

[edit] Views and opinions on controversies

How did your parents react to your decision (of competing)? As we all know, Pakistani families/social circles are very conservative and frown upon such things.

"I am thankful because I have been blessed with very supportive family and friends in my life that have not only allowed me to feel right about what I do, but in face, they have been my personal motivators from the beginning until the end. They have shown me nothing but encouragement, and without them, I may not have had the courage to enter such a comepetition."

Do you feel you accomplished something that will truly make a difference in the Pakistani community inside and outside of Pakistan? If so, what difference do you think you made?

"In taking part in the Pakistan pageant and ensuing events including the latest Bollywood Fashion Awards, I feel that not only are we setting a starting point for Pakistani women in enabling them to express themselves more freely, but also we are crossing boundaries by exposing our talent and women into other arenas like Bollywood, which have typically been reserved only for Indians. This is a crucial difference as it serves as an example for Pakistani women the world over, to take upon challenges whether it be in terms of following career dreams, or ambitions and try to achieve whatever they wish without having to worry about traditional stereotypes and societal pressures that have been holding them back."
