Sega Rally Revo (known in Europe simply as Sega RALLY) is an offroad racing video game, the most recent installment of the Sega Rally series. The game is available on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP from 28 September 2007 in Europe.[1] The game's title is "REVO" to show that it's still a revolution in this genre which proves again that why Codemasters have cited Sega Rally as a strong influence on their first Colin McRae Rally game.

[edit] Features

Developed at the SEGA Racing Studio in Solihull, England,[2] the game's features include:[1]

  • Over 30 vehicles to choose from, both 4WD and 2WD as well as classic rally vehicles.
  • Dynamically deformable terrain.[3]
  • Scenery with damage modeling
  • Realistic modelling of dirt and mud affecting cars' performance.
  • 6 racing environments.
  • There will be 16 different tracks in total.
  • Multiplayer split-screen mode (2-player only)(should be noted though that the pc version of the game has some troubles if you try to play with two Xbox 360 controllers, only one of the gamepads are recognized, so essentially only one player with 360 controller and the other with keyboard only)
  • Online multiplayer for up to six racers

The game is intended to be as realistic as possible while still retaining the arcade style gameplay long associated with the Sega Rally series.

[edit] Release date

Sega Rally Revo is scheduled for a September 28, 2007 release date in Europe and September 27, 2007 in Australia.[1] A demo was released on Xbox Live on September 18, 2007 and on the Playstation Network on September 20, 2007. The PC Demo was released September 28, 2007.[4] The US PC release date was originally scheduled for October 30, 2007 but was pushed back until November 19, 2007. The game has now been made available at select stores in the US since December 1, 2007.

[edit] US Marketing

Part of the promotional activity in North America includes a series of three short comedy films< that revolve around the antics of two valley girls as a racing partnership[citation needed]. Titled "Tonya & Donya", the films feature the double act of Natasha Leggero as driver and regular comedy collaborator Melinda Hill, as co-driver.

Each of the films ends with the strapline "Drive like a man".

[edit] Critical response

Before the game's release, reviews of preview copies have been positive. Eurogamer said that "watching SEGA Rally in action is an exhilarating and uplifting experience"[5] while British Gaming Blog rated it "above and beyond other racers and offers something unique".[6]

Game Rankings currently scores it 78.7% for the Xbox 360, 80.4% for the PlayStation 3, 74% for the PC, and 78.3% for the PlayStation Portable.
