Template talk:See Wiktionary

Why/where is this preferred over {{wiktionarypar}}? I guess this does seem to be a little more in the style of de.wikipedia.org sister-links, but on enwiki, most of our links to sister sites seem to be in the larger boxes. (eg. see de:Vorlage:Wiktionary and its use at the bottom of de:Atom or de:Automobil, and compare/contrast to the box on the right at George W. Bush#External links) --Interiot 21:50, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Guillemets?
How about using customary English quotation marks instead of guillemets? —Fleminra 22:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wiktionary does not have initial capitalization on
The documentation needs to mention that Wiktionary does not have initial capitalization on; it, unlike English Wikipedia, is able to distinguish between "mercury" and "Mercury" which are separate and distinct Wiktionary entries, for example. That means that
- The documentation for this template should warn editors about that.
- The default with no parameters should perhaps be eliminated. When it is used, it will much more likely be used for a common noun or adjective which is not normally capitalized, so the default always-capitalized PAGENAME parameter will often be wrong.

- Guess I should have looked closer first. The default actually lowercases the first letter. That's probably good; it still needs mention in the documentation so that when the uppercase initial letter Wiktionary entry is desired, it can be used. Or at least I'm assuming it can be, without looking in detail at the actual programming of this template. Gene Nygaard (talk) 02:07, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
