[edit] 1988 season summary
Source | Date | Named storms |
Hurricanes | Major hurricanes |
CSU [3] | June | 11 | 7 | Unknown |
Record high activity | 28 | 15 | 8
Record low activity | 1 | 0 (tie) | 0

Forecasts of hurricane activity are issued before each hurricane season by noted hurricane experts like Dr. William M. Gray, and his associates at Colorado State University. A normal season, as defined by NOAA, has 6 to 14 named storms, with 4 to 8 of those reaching hurricane strength, and 1 to 3 major hurricanes. The June, 1988 forecast predicted that that a total of eleven storms would form, and seven of the storms would reach hurricane status. The forecast did not specify how many of the hurricanes would reach major hurricane status.
