Sedgley Urban District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sedgley Urban District was a local authority which was created in 1894 from half of the manor of Sedgley (the other half of which was placed in Coseley Urban District).

Sedgley UDC incorporated the areas of Sedgley, Upper Gornal, Lower Gornal, Gornalwood and Woodsetton. On its formation, the district was a largely rural area made up of several villages.

By the time Sedgley UDC ceased to exist when split between Wolverhampton and Dudley in 1966, the district had developed into a town due to extensive housebuilding (private and council) since 1920. The council offices were used by a department of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley up to 1999, and have since been converted into a block of residential apartments.
