Coordinates: 17°10′59″N 77°16′59″E / 17.183, 77.283 Sedam (Kannada:ಸೇಡಂ) is a town in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also the headquarters of the Sedam Taluk.

According to 2001 census, Sedam has a population of 31539, with 16113 males and 15426 females. It has a literacy rate of 68.9%. The town is spread over an area of 5.5 sq. km.[1]

Sedam Taluk has borders with the following Taluks of Gulbarga district: Chitapur taluk to the west, Chincholi Taluk to the north and Yadgir Taluk to the south. It also borders Tandur Taluk of Rangareddi district of Andhra Pradesh and also Korangal Taluk of Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh to the east.

As of 2001 India census[2], Sedam had a population of 31,529. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sedam has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 49%. In Sedam, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

  • Sedam is famous for Shahabad stones which are used for construction. Lot of quarries around Sedam mine these stones for sale (both uncut and polished).
  • Two cement factories are present in this taluk, viz. M/S Vasavadatta Cements at Sedam and M/S Rajashree Cements at Malkhed.
  • It is also a largest producers and famous for Toor and Toordal (Togari and Togaribele).

sedam is a place where u can get the quarries which is unused. once upon a time it was very popular due to the loss in the cci cement factory it was closed.

  • Malkhed: Known as Manyakheta in ancient period, Malkhed (in Sedam Taluk) on the banks of Kagini River was the capital of Rashtrakutas from (818- 982).
