[edit] Re: TTC Subway Map
Nice work. I like that map. I've made a few minor edits to it; most importantly, it was missing Glencairn. I've updated the template, and asked people to share their views on which is better on the talk page. Regarding the interchanges at St. George and Bay, I think it's important to show them, to indicate the system's capabilities. It would be nice to have them in the light blue of not in use track to distinguish them, but I don't think the necessary tiles exist. I've brought this point up on the talk page, as well. It would also be nice to have Union Station at the bottom of the loop, but, again, non-existent vertical interchange symbols appear to prevent that. Yes, it is a difficult one here; the use of dotted lines suggests that the subway is either in progress of being built, or the minor route being depicted, emphasising the over-ground services. I think your current edits for Finnieston Junction and tunnels are a little bit wrong (3 lines?). It's too late tonight for me to look at it further, but I'll browse tomorrow and give you some constructive feedback. - As you had put the City Centre tunnels in place, I was attempting to show that the Up Argyle Line is in tunnel (ex Lanrkshire and Dunbartonshire Railway) between Finnieston West Junction and Exhibition Centre station, whilst the down Argyle line uses the ex Stobcross Railway ramp from the Glasgow Central Railway formation. - Scottish Railways seems to be a friendly collaborative project with a few users combining seamlessly without the bitching that can take place elsewhere. The original name of Template:Crossrail Glasgow(route) was to allow expansion and input by "the experts" like yourself, but, now that I understand the naming convention better, I see it was redundant. Railway line and historic information added to the template was what I expected you to know. Additionally, what is needed is the name of the junction east of High Street station where Crossrail starts. Perhaps I am missing something here, but I don't understand the relevance to "Crossrail" of some of the stations you added. Charing Cross, Bellgrove and Argyle are all existing stations that will not be impacted on by the proposed changes, with New facilities proposed on those lines at a relocated High Street, transfer to the Argyle line at Glasgow Cross and a turnaround on the North Clyde line before reaching the overloaded Finnieston Junction. - I got a bit carried away when tweaking the map around the edges. You are of course right about Argyle Street and Charing Cross stations (I stopped before adding Anderston or Exhibition Centre). Bellgrove is a significant station as it is the interface between Crossrail and the North Clyde Line and onwards to Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate (hence the reference to the extinct line being rebuilt). The historic details are provided in the Template for the City Union Line, so I was not intended to add much more detail. One question I have is the location of the new low level platforms at Glasgow Cross as the current widening of the tunnel is to the west of the high level City Union Line. - My contribution to Crossrail Glasgow was caused by not being able to follow the article without a diagram: and so I made one. In proposals like this it always seems the political considerations outnumber the practical and so realistically, until anything is approved, I wouldn't worry too much about the details. - I noticed you just created a test infobox in your userspace. In case you don't know, I did some work in late January to modify the GO infobox in my own userspace - you can find the current version here. You're more than welcome to make modifications to it, or to copy it to your userspace. It already incorporates some of the changes we discussed, particularly bus terminals. It currently has a minor problem - the menu doesn't collapse for stations on the line; this is an issue between ParserFunctions and syntax used for table formatting. What I was trying to do is something you could probably fix in a minute. There are only a few GO Transit owned bus terminals and I was trying to make the infobox useable for them by turning OFF the line information and change the top heading to station + "Bus Terminal" Input would be just like a train station as here:User:Secondarywaltz/Transit. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:43, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

- I put up a test page which uses the new template. It's not quite right yet - I intend to split the logic for stations and terminals so we don't have a stray display of "Union Station" (which is always shown because it appears in every line). My current thoughts are to rename the "station" variable to "name", and implement the new variable "type", which could take values of "station", "terminal", and perhaps "line". - I like your new priority logic reading from the top: name, facility info, other stations on same line, other lines, bus terminals. You seem to enjoy the challenge of making this one template fit everything. Good stuff.
You had previously mentioned the possible inclusion of ridership statistics and, having seen the labour intensive update of TTC stations, my reservations were based on maintenance problems. - I'm glad you like it. I just added a few features to the template. Now, when type is set to "line", the train lines section is automatically displayed; it is hidden if type is set to station or terminal. If type is set to terminal, the bus terminals section is displayed, but hidden for other types. The name information is automatically retrieved (using article name) if no name parameter is set. I've probably introduced a few errors into the template, so I'll have to run a few tests to see how it works with different parameter sets. Mindmatrix 18:56, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your time investment, too. I haven't been dropping the appropriate freak-out templates, but the article's copy has a lot of copyvioed stuff right off the official site
I certainly appreciate all the fun technical headaches that the template must have kicked (and continues to kick) up. One little aspect of the preexisting chart that I found neat, but admittedly could be just a quirkiness on my part, is getting a graphical sense of how stations on different lines relate to one another--answering questions like is Newmarket closer than Burlington?, for instance. That seems technically difficult to do if there are individually-collapsing lines.
I've also been editing the article somewhat to play down the importance of Toronto proper to the system. There's a lot of painstaking detail about TTC connections, for instance, presumably added by Toronto-based editors and metrophiles and so on. At the end of the day, though, GO's a more "905" rooted transit system than a "416" once, and stations like Danforth see little use relative to the Oakvilles and Oshawas. I'd be concerned that the partially-collapsed default layout draws undue attention to the weeny stops close in to the core of the system and downplays the significance of its reach out into the commuter belt. (Telling fact: there are 2500 parking stalls at Oakville station alone, and there's still overflow off the property every morning.) The Tom (talk) 19:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

What I originally had in mind for that section, besides uncluttering, was to differentiate between the 2km apart concession roads (427/Browns Line, Kipling, Royal York, Jane, Keele, Dufferin, Bathurst, Yonge, Bayview, Leslie, Woodbine, Vic Park) and other roads. I decided to go that way because when you put them together with the east-west roads, they form a grid. Although I do see that there are alternate set ups in Etobicoke and Scarborough, in the former, the 2km pattern retains itself. This is why I didn't include Islington, and it's also why I started the Royal York article. In Scarborough it completely changes, however. The concession roads reset to 800m at Pharmacy Ave, although for the purposes of this template, not all of them can be included, so the concession/other split cannot work as originally intended (which might require some overhaul, though i can't imagine how it could be done without complicating things, and the way it is now is better than before). So I basically made up that part as best I could *cough*original research*cough*
Mississauga is also interesting, as it seems to have 2 to 3 different layouts going on. I'll have to double check though. The maps you provided me with do help, so I'll look it up there. Thanks. --Pwnage8 (talk) 21:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thunder Bay Transit
- some of the information entered may be incomplete or just plain wrong (platforms?).
When you discuss Thunder Bay Transit routes, you have to give both the number, name and destination. You can't say "3 Memorial" because 3 Memorial is 6 routes. You have to be more specific. Even routes that are technically one route, like 1 Mainline, will have two platforms for buses heading in either direction.
I made a map to help you figure out how many platforms there are. Water either has 1 or 10 and Brodie either has 3, 4, or 11. The city calls them "islands" and "bays", I think.
- What facilities are available at the bus terminals? Are there public washrooms and a heated waiting area?
The terminals have heated buildings which are open from about 5:45 to about 1:15 each day, they have seats, a board that displays bus route schedules (and will soon have digital maps as part of the NextBus system), "benches" (large plastic things from the 70s, they're hilarious.), a payphone, and are wheelchair accessible. There is a staff room in each one for drivers to take a break when they're at the terminal. There are no public washrooms.
My table isn't 100% correct but I think it's as close as I can get. I'll put it into the article. :) Also, the reason I did not split routes on the map was because some streets (especially downtown) would have so many routes it would be too hard to do at least in that scale.

Thank you for adding the photo of John Illsley to his page from the Dire Straits page! I was unsure if other people would agree with me on that suggestion. However, I noticed you changed his info box back to a non-vocal instrumentalist. I am curious as to why. He not only provided backing vocals for Dire Straits and some Mark Knopfler solo projects, but in addition, he recorded at least 3 solo albums where he sang lead vocals on several songs, if not all. One Dire Straits song that comes to mind is this, with Dire Straits: "Lady Writer Here's an example from his solo album, the title track from Never told a soul "Never Told A Soul" Please leave me a response either here or on my talk page.. --leahtwosaints (talk) 18:09, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- The purpose of the parameter 'background' is simply to add a coloured background to the infobox and not to pigeonhole the artist. There are only 7 categories to use in the Template:Infobox Musical artist and the primary one should be selected. John is a bass player, which qualifies as a 'non_vocal_instrumentalist'. Everything you say about him is true (I've even got 12" singles somewhere), but that goes in the article. This means that a great guitar player like Mark Knopfler is given the 'background' of a 'solo_singer'. The number of choices in the system really has to be limited and the result is purely cosmetic anyway. - Secondarywaltz (talk) 18:50, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. I see what you are saying. Probably it would be smart to be looking for a good Dire Straits band photo to replace the one we are using for John Illsley now. It might be easier than finding a solo picture of John's anyway, since the band did play nearly nonstop for quite a number of years, and Mark Knopfler was always the focus of most music reviewers and critics. I've never uploaded a photo successfully before. On a non Dire Straits note: Maybe you'd have the solution for this: I have two BEA-YOUTIFUL photos of Lowell George with a great view of him playing slide guitar, the slide is visable, with his open tuning trademarks. The question is this: the photos were taken and sold to us and we can't recall the photographer's name. (I knew Lowell as a 16-19 year old, since my boyfriend was 12 years older than I.) What to do? The photos are perfect for his page. We even let one of the Little Feat members post one of the photos on their website as a tribute to him. Do you know of ANYBODY who can answer all of this and perhaps even get one or both pics posted on his page?? I have asked some editors with over 2 years of constant work on the wikipedia (as I work on it constantly myself) and the response is always, "If you didn't take it yourself, GOOD LUCK!" I knew that something has changed with the infobox but didn't know quite what it was, so now that you have told me hopefully I can get it right in the future. I never thought I'd get to Glasgow, but I managed to fulfill my own photo request. [edit] Thunder Bay Transit Logo
The actual Thunder Bay Transit logo replaced "CITY OF" with "TRANSIT", replaced "Superior by Nature" with "Climb on Board" and adds horizontal lines coming out of the rainbow eagle thing to represent movement. I have been unable to find a version of it online though, so I guess using the city logo will do, as they are very similar. vıdıoman 02:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for telling me about this. You made a very good start to the article (better than Glasgow Flyer started as!!!), so there was not much I could do to improve it. However, I have added a few bit and bobs, probably you will have noticed the picture, which I was lucky to get (the lights were on amber..). I hit transit on the town's "search page". About 12 entries.
I googled Midland Transit, Midland ON, got a few things--noted that the service was once chartered from Midland-Pentang Coach Lines; it's now part of Greyhound Canada...

Hi there,
Regarding to the new infobox I had inserted into the Sheppard-Yonge (TTC) and McCowan (TTC) articles. I have created these new infoboxes to substitute the old ones, because I believe the old infoboxes need serious and major improvements A.S.A.P.. If you look at other's cities subway station's infoboxes, they are considered as much better than the ones we have in Toronto. Out of all of these infoboxes, the ones of the MTR appealed to me the most. Therefore, I decided to implement that into the TTC system.
I know, if I were to directly apply the changes onto the existing infobox, there will be other protests and it will only stir up more troubles. Good thing you reverted my infobox edit. I want to know, WHY did you revert my infobox? Was there anything not good about it? How is it not clear? Surely, you can tell me the issues, and I will fix it. My long term goal is to replace all existing infoboxes with this new one.
