Template talk:Sect-num-stub
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Usage
The SECTION NUMBER is required for this template to work properly! If you do not wish to include the section number, please use {{sectstub}}.
Usage: {{sect-num-stub|SECTION NUMBER}} where SECTION NUMBER is the number of the section in the article.

[edit] Discussion
There are problems with this template not being decoded properly. It used to show up in articles as
This section is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by [http://en.wikipedia.org{{localurl::Traffic sign|action=edit§ion={{{1}}} }} expanding it].
So I removed the §ion={{{1}}} bit to make it work.--Clawed 07:57, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- You have actually nullified the entire purpose of this template by removing it. -- AllyUnion (talk) 11:32, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Ignore all my comments about fixing this damn thing. The reason and only reason why this does not render properly is failure to read the directions and improperly using this template.. Please do not edit this template because you think it is broken. -- AllyUnion (talk) 13:21, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Section 3
This is section 3.
[edit] Test (Section 4)
[edit] number vs. name vs. automation
Hardcoding the number is a bad idea, whenever the sections change, it has to be manually updated. Hardcoding names would be bad, because they can change at will, too. The best thing would be to have a feature in the MediaWiki software that would generate the §ion=number part by doing a back-search from the inserted location (upwards in the text). --Joy [shallot] 11:21, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- That has been a requested feature, which I have personally requested. -- AllyUnion (talk) 05:45, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] redundant
Shouldn't this template read You can edit this section by clicking on the section editing link above. ?? --ssd 05:02, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- No, sectstub should read that. This one links directly to editing the specific section if used correctly. -- AllyUnion (talk) 05:45, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Still seems redundant, except for those who have section editing turned off in their profile. --ssd 08:01, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] renamed
I renamed the template, the distinction of hyphenated (sect-stub) vs. non-hyphenated (sectstub) was too confusing. After checking all articles that use it, I'll make sect-stub point to sectstub, but it'll take time to check them all. --Joy [shallot] 21:04, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
As I suspected, a majority of articles that used sect-stub didn't use it with a number. I'm going through the whatlinkshere list and changing those that did into -num, and then when I'm done I'll move the redirect over to sectstub. --Joy [shallot] 21:18, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
