Security appliance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Security appliances protect computer networks from unwanted data traffic, intruders, e-mail spam, enforce policies, and may also be used to create and manage VPNs. There are a number of types of security appliances. The most common of which is a network firewall that is an independent computer server appliance running specialized OS for this function.[1]
An example of a security appliance would be the CISCO Systems PIX firewall.
