SecurDisc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SecureDisc is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology developed jointly between Nero AG and LG Electronics. It is a recordable media encryption system using hardware that is built into the DVD recorder itself. As well as Nero Burning Rom software. Using a SecurDisc enabled drive and Nero Burning ROM, a user can natively encrypt certain parts of a recordable disk using 128bit AES Key. The first two drives to feature this technology are produced by LG under the model names GSA-H55N and GSA-H55L (L for Lightscribe). Other manufactures may also add SecurDisc compatibility in the future.

A checksum "digital signature" feature in SecurDisc makes sure that the data on the disk is exactly whats supposed to be there (verified by hardware). This way, an installer may verify that it is installing from an original disk.

Since the Decryption process is in the DVD drives hardware, it is currently not possible to mount a SecurDisc encrypted Volume as a virtual drive.
