[edit] List of Grammar Schools in Essex and Southend-on-Sea

All Grammar Schools are selective.

[edit] General Performance

Throughout Essex (including Southend-on-Sea), different types of schools get very different positions in the League tables. In terms of GCSE results (2006 League tables), grammar schools seem to be the most successful schools in Essex - all eight grammar schools are in the top 11 schools in the county. After that Independent Schools seem to be the second most successful schools - 12 of the Top 22 schools in the county are Independent Schools. Only two non-selective state schools are in the Top 20: Davenant Foundation School and Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School (both faith-based schools).
