The Second Battle of Fort Sumter was fought on September 8, 1863, between Union and Confederate forces. The Union forces were attempting to retake the fort after losing it in the first battle of the war. After a severe bombing of the fort, the artillerist and all but one of the fort's guns were replaced with 320 infantrymen, who repulsed a naval landing party.
