[edit] Background
One should note that this is based on the Battle of Beruna in the 2008 film Prince Caspian. Prince Caspian's army had already suffered numerous casualties in a failed assault on Miraz's Castle. Miraz most likely sought to exploit his victory and destroy the Narnians once and for all at their home base. High King Peter and Prince Caspian knew they probably would not survive against Miraz in open battle so they sent Miraz a challenge for single combat against Peter, a boy have his age. Miraz felt he was bound by honor to agree though it would annul his numerical advantage. In the ensuing conflict, Peter defeated Miraz but spared him. Miraz was unfortunately, then killed by his general Glozelle and it seemed that battle would break out anyway.
[edit] The Battle
In the movie, The Second Battle of Beruna was fought between the Telemarines and the Narnians. The Telemarines number several thousand infantry, approximately five hundred cavalry, and many trebuchets while the Narnians number about five hundred archers and and a number of heavy infantry, and centaurs inside Aslan's How. After the duel between Miraz and Peter, Glozelle slew Miraz and rallied the Telmarine army to battle. The Narnians may have been shocked as this breaks the truce. The Telmarine begin the battle by sending several hundred heavy cavalry men, who make up the bulk of their mounted units. It is likely that the Narnians anticipated such a move since Caspian and the rest of the Narnian troops ran through the underground caverns of Aslan's How and cut down the stalactites which caused the tunnel to collapse, surprising and effectually disabling the cavalry since the attack was perfectly timed. At that moment, Susan and the archers immediately fire a volley of arrows into what remains of the Telmarine cavalry and two dwarves open a secret gate in Aslan's How, letting out Prince Caspian's soldiers and outflanking the Telmarine cavalry. Most likely recognizing the danger his cavalry force was in, the Telmarine General Sopesian immediately took the rest of the Telmarine army, almost all infantry and marched forward to confront the Narnians. He also ordered trebuchets to bombard Aslan's How. The trebuchet attack is successful and scatters the Narnian archers and also destroys the gate, effectively cutting off Caspian's retreat. The battle now seems to end up being with no clear winner when with a stroke a luck, Lucy finally finds Aslan, who wakes the trees which make a surprise attack on the Telmarine troops, including one scene where a tree's roots crush a trebuchet. The Telmarines retreat towards the bridge, where one Telmarine general mentions that they could survive ifthey make it to the bridge. This is most likely since the trees will have little or no strength crossing the beach and since the Telmarine force is lacking its cavalry force, its infantry will have an advantage in an enclosed area such as the bridge against the Narnian troops. However when a River spirit destroys the bridge all is lost, Sopesian is killed and the Telmarines routed.
[edit] Aftermath
The Telmarine army was defeated here and Prince Caspian now had no opponents to the throne. With his only opponent to be Miraz's newborn son, he was quickly crowned King over Narnia.
