[edit] Past history

CBS has historically aired fewer college games than the other networks, but it broadcast some important games in the 1980s, such as the classic Boston College-Miami game that ended with Doug Flutie's Hail Mary on November 23, 1984. The network aired Big East games from 1996-2000, and since 1996 has broadcast SEC games.

CBS aired the Bowl Alliance (a precursor to the Bowl Championship Series), with the exception of the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl from 1995-1997. CBS aired the Cotton Bowl during the mid-90's as well. During the three-year history of the Bowl Alliance, CBS aired the 1996 Orange Bowl between ACC Champion Florida State and Notre Dame, the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, which was the national championship game between #1 Nebraska and #2 Florida, the 1997 (played 12/31/06) Orange Bowl between Big East Champion Virginia Tech and Nebraska, the 1997 Fiesta Bowl between 10-2 Penn State and Big 12 Champion Texas, the 1998 Fiesta Bowl between Kansas State and Big East Champion Syracuse, led by Donovan McNabb, and the 1998 Orange Bowl between #2 Nebraska and #3 Tennessee.

[edit] Typical games

The games aired on this package are the premiere SEC matchups of the week. Top teams like the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, and Tennessee Volunteers usually appear on these telecasts.

During the Regular season, typical games that shown almost every year include Florida-Tennessee, Tennessee-Alabama (with the exception of the 2007 season), Florida-Georgia, Auburn-Georgia, Auburn-Alabama, LSU-Arkansas, LSU-Florida and LSU-Auburn (always at Auburn; CBS has never televised an Auburn-LSU game in Baton Rouge). In addition, Florida-Florida State and Georgia-Georgia Tech alternate each year depending on which SEC team is at home. In addition, CBS will occasionally televise games where SEC schools host marquee non-conference foes, such as the Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Since 2001, the SEC Championship Game has been televised by CBS.

[edit] Non-SEC games

CBS also broadcasts a few matchups outside of the SEC. Broadcasts include the Army-Navy Game, and in even-numbered years the contest between Notre Dame and Navy when played at a neutral site as Navy's home game. Notre Dame home games are exclusive to NBC. CBS also broadcasts the Sun Bowl, which they will air nationally for the 40th consecutive year in December 2007, and beginning in 2007, the Gator Bowl.
