Washington Sebastián Abreu Gallo (born 17 October 1976 in Minas) is an Uruguayan football striker, who is nicknamed "El Loco" (The Mad Man). He currently plays for River Plate in Argentina.
[edit] Football career
A prolific goal scorer, he has played in numerous clubs in South and North America (Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil) also having an unsuccessful stint with Spain's Deportivo La Coruña, who loaned him several times for the duration of his contract. His last club was Tigres in Mexico and he was able to rescind his contract with them in order to join River Plate. The Mexican FA stalled on recognizing this transfer because of an imposed transfer moratorium between the Mexican teams and River Plate.
Abreu has played since 1996 for the Uruguay national football team and was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and at the Copa América 2007.
