[edit] Speedy deletion of User:Searchjohn

A tag has been placed on User:Searchjohn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per speedy deletion criterion G11.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. can I have the article back that has been deleted. I spent all Saturday night writing this article and digging out old company office documents and IRD documents and I havnt saved the document I uploaded. I heard an interview with Jonny Welsh who said that everyone can write something for Wikipedia. I wasn't expecting that articles that took me 4 hours to write get deleted without warning. I will get my lawyer to post the artice about my company, that makes it hopefully more binding.

[edit] November 2007

Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from articles that you have created yourself, as you did with User:Searchjohn. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Auroranorth (sign) 08:08, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help

ok, I try to make this as neutral as possible. I am not sure what I have to do to make the article more "encyclopedic". Any suggestions?

I want to contribute something in a neutral way, without oging overboard.

Do you want to see our official Income Tax Return or do you want our complete list of all our 20 websites we run?

What is needed? We are an internet company with the core business of internet search.

Tom Krieg, SearchJohn.com Limited

Firstly, the article doesn't belong on your userpage. Try your sandbox instead. Secondly, your company fails notability and WP:ORG. Thirdly, you may have a conflict of interest and finally, this may be blatant advertising. Thanks! Auroranorth (sign) 08:42, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Searchjohn/sandbox#About

can anyone now give us approval that we can finally post this Sandbox article into Wikipedia?

We have made this now as much to the point as possible and as technical as possible....no "blatant advertising" anywhere, just brief facts.....

Thanks Tom --Searchjohn 10:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Soccerhighway.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Soccerhighway.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:06, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signing comments

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Adrian M. H. 02:22, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Restoring your user page

You can retrieve the old content of your page from Google's cache [1].

Click User:Searchjohn/sandbox to create your sandbox, then paste from Google.

If you are able to improve the sandbox article to Wikipedia standards, then you could create an article and paste from your sandbox.

Bear in mind that two of Wikipedia's most important policies are notability and verifiability. A subject must be sufficiently notable to be worth including in the encyclopedia and that notability must be able to be verified through references to reliable sources.

Put simply, if there are newspaper articles with enough information to write about a subject, then that subject is notable and those articles can verify the information in the Wikipedia article.

If you cannot find newspaper web sites that provide information for an article, then the subject is not notable or verifiable and almost certainly will be deleted. So your first job is to go find references. Sbowers3 14:51, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of SearchJohn.com Limited:

1) The National Golf Association of the Phillipines has a 75x71 pixel banner of Golfhighway.com on the Front Page of their website http://www.ngapgolf.com. We did NOT pay for them to put our banner there nor do we have a rich uncle who is the president at that Golf Association. Note that this is the official national Golf Association of the Phillipines and not some random Golf Player of Golf Blogger. This banner is already there for several years, and thats because Golfhighway.com is a high quality Golf Website where we checked EVERY single link manually...(yes some links are broken...that happens..). Note furthermore that our website Golfhighway.com is extremely critical with Golf, because it is the ONLY Golf website that addresses the issue of Deforestation cause by Golf Courses.... (deforestation now at least the area of Belgium and it informs visitors that the world has lost 73 Billion m2 Forest in 2006.....). Now thats definitely a very critical Golf website here, BUT the National Golf Assocition of the Phillipines STILL puts our banner on the front page of their website, simply they know how much hard work we put into that and that we really try to have a fair view on the topic. If you are a Golfer you know HOW critical Golf Clubs and Golf Associations are... keep in mind that some Golf Clubs have rules that you can only join if 10 members recommend you and there is no veto from a member....so imagine how difficult it is to get mentioned on the Front Page of an official Golf Association with a banner!!!! Here is the Screenshot as a proof: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/ba/Ngapscreenshot.gif Note further that is is probably much more difficult to get on the front page of a Golf Association than to be mentioned in a random Golf Magazine that might just want to fill up some empty pages..... Golfhighway.com is run by SearchJohn.com Limited formerly Soccerhighway.com Limited.

2) Cork City FC Official Website:
we ran for several years a competition where we were asking visitors to nominate the "Best Soccer Website of the Year". Cork City FC obviously realised that our Soccer Website was doing a pretty good job indexing Soccer Websites worldwide and they found it noteworthy as a big irish Soccer Club to mention us.....remember we are NOT an irish soccer website, but we are located in New Zealand....

This was supplied only for INTERNAL use!!!! It was only supplied to prove the point that the National Golf Association of the Phillipines put our Banner Golfhighway.com FREE OF CHARGE on their Frontpage..... this was the reaction to a statement that I got that my company is not worth the coverage in Wikipedia. Could someone give me a statement what else is required as a proof to be listed for an internet company that has been around for AGES.....we had 40 websites running at some stage....--Searchjohn 09:46, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ngapscreenshot.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ngapscreenshot.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:23, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I'll try to help

Checking back, I see that you need a little more help. It was almost by accident that I came back here. Other people who could help you won't usually read your talk page and won't see your questions. The "user" who notified you about the image problems was a robot or "bot" as indicated by the last three letters of its name. It can't read your questions to it.

To request help you can visit the WP:Help desk or insert the tag {{helpme}} on this talk page.

I'm not an expert on images but I think you can get around your problems not by citing fair use, but by granting a GFDL license making them free for anyone to use. Again, I don't know the details but you can ask for help about how to do it.

I recommend that you read Wikipedia's policies on notability, verifiability, and reliable sources. What your sandbox article needs is references to articles in newspapers that describe your company. Have any newspapers or magazines considered your company notable enough to write about your company? The fact that you may have created a great golf web site or soccer web site might show that you produce notable web sites, but does not demonstrate that your company is notable. Please realize that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory. It tries to provide information that might be still be notable 50 years from now; it does not try to list every single good or even great company.
