[edit] Motorcycle Task Force

At the moment this would be under automobiles or transport, but which is not clear.

This project is for wikipedians who have a particular interest in motorcycle editing. If you feel it should be broader, feel free to post your thoughts.

Funnily enough I just posted such a proposal today on the Grand Prix motorcycle racing WikiProject talk page suggestion that is too restrictive and that maybe a wider project with more scope might get more people interested in all motorcycle topics. I don't know if it is possible to rename and re-edit a WikiProject, so we don't need to redo everything from scratch but I don't think it need to be any broader that just motorcycling which covers a multitude; racing, manufacturers, circuits, technology, etc. I'll be happy to help. ww2censor 22:28, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Does a Project involve more than what we do already, i.e. making entries more comprehensive, and Wikifying, or is there more to a Project than that?

Am I meant to get people to add their name at Wikipedia:WikiProject/List of proposed projects#WikiProject Motorcycles as well? I don't know much to be jumping in like this.

"Creating a WikiProject is relatively easy. I encourage you, Seasalt, to submit a proposal to Wikipedia:WikiProject/List of proposed projects or just start one yourself and notify users who you think might be interested (e.g. edit motorcycle articles regularly)."

"Promoting projects: If your project gains support from 5-10 active Wikipedians, it could probably benefit from the organisation boost of having a proper page. Remove it from this list and follow the instructions for creating new projects." Seasalt 11:40, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if you already looked at these pages: Template:WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide because they have all the information you need to start a project page. I'm not sure how much time I can give you and I would love to get a reply from any of the GP project members on their thought before starting this as there is a certain commitment that needs to be given otherwise the project will just become inactive. Cheers ww2censor 13:57, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok, read that. I am thinking that if there are four interested, it might be worthwhile.Seasalt 14:17, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree, so let's see if we can recruit 2 more from somewhere. ww2censor 14:57, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
BTW, I would just make direct contact rather than posting notices in different motorcycle pages. Check out the members of the GP racing project first but don't be impatient. It took a few days for me to get any response from them. A good thing to do is look at the user's contributions and you will see their activity which will indicate if there have been working recently. ww2censor 15:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Should I remove the ones I did. Got the idea from the "Join a project" banner..but probably an impulsive act. Its not spamming I hope. You are thinking non serious recruits? Seasalt 15:43, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, User:Izaakb has joined: Wikipedia:WikiProject/List of proposed projects#WikiProject Motorcycles Seasalt 15:48, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually the project name should be Motorcycling rather than Motorcycles? What is the naming convention? To me motorcycling covers everything to do with motorcycling, while motorcycles only cover the machine themselves. Either way, if you agree I will set up the basic project page this weekend to get it going. I had some advise form an admin editor I work with said that the Grand Prix project can be a sub-project of this proposed project. ww2censor 14:23, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

As I understand it, Motorcycling includes Motorcycles, and Motorcycling Activities (Circuit Racing, Trials, Scrambles, etc), so that's fine with me. I hope your fellow Grand Prix editors agree, and don't see it as an unwarranted and increased load with the wider scope. We would be a child project of Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport? Seasalt 14:46, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

OK, so I started it and named it Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling as a child project of Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport, so please fill in the detail as appropriate. Seasalt I have already added your name but without any details. Let's get working. ww2censor 17:57, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
