Greetings, I am Sean Whitton (formerly Xyrael, and not Sean William who kindly designed this page), an editor of this encyclopedia. I'm always happy to help, so please feel free to talk to me if you need something. I'm around here because I see the project as something that has the potential to shape the world and make it better. By empowering people with free knowledge I believe that we can improve lives and cross boundaries. We can do this by staying together as a community and using our common sense and morals to make the right choices about the direction of the project.

My work on the English Wikipedia

The English Wikipedia was where I started out with Wikimedia, and although a lot of the stuff I do is at Foundation level I still see this as my home project. I'm an administrator here and mediator emeriti of the Mediation Committee. I have long been a metapedian as I find that I am better at working with the community, its intricacies and organisation, rather than actually researching and writing articles.

Elsewhere, I am an OTRS agent on the e-mail response team answering the English info and press queues and I am currently co-ordinating the Communication Projects Group. I do a decent amount of work on IRC where I am a Wikimedia group contact, one of those responsible for the running of the channels. I'm also a channel operator and freenode staffer, so feel free to ping me for IRC-related help.

Personal information

I'm a sixth form student living in Sheffield, UK. I'm interested in a good few things, such as law, politics, philosophy, history and maths. My hobbies include change ringing at Sheffield Cathedral, reading, computing, gaming (electronic and table-top roleplaying) and I am a volunteer for Oxfam.

On the Internet I contribute to Wikimedia and freenode as I think both of these projects are really useful and constructive. I'm pretty into IRC, and I can also be found on other websites around the place. Sometimes I am known as spwhitton, Xyrael, Zyrael, swhitton or simply my real name.

I am an atheist until it is proven otherwise (nothing is impossible). Politically, I am a socialist and a liberal, and I'm pretty strong with both of these. I keep a website at seanwhitton.com
