Searching For A Former Clarity is Against Me!'s third full length album, and the follow-up to the controversial As The Eternal Cowboy, an album whose sound was a marked departure from the band's former style. With this album, the style shifts again, but the record still contains hints of their folk punk roots in songs such as "How Low" and "Joy." On November 11, 2005, the music video for "Don't Lose Touch" aired on MTV, a first for the band. A video for "From Her Lips To God's Ears (The Energizer)" was also released.
To date, the album has sold over 65,000 copies.

Several months before the official release of the album, a set of demos were stolen and distributed on the internet over filesharing networks. Below is the unofficial track listing found most often on filesharing networks, with song titles as given by fans. With the exception of "Ed Is Sexy" and "Exhaustion," all of the tracks made the final cut of the album, though "Oh Good God!" was retitled "Holy Shit!" and "How Low Can You Go" was shortened to "How Low."
