Sean Hessey (born 19 September 1978 in Whiston) is an English professional footballer who spent the 2007–08 season on loan at Macclesfield Town from Chester City.

Hessey, a defender, previously played for Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town, Kilmarnock and Blackpool.

His time at Kilmarnock was a frustrating one and he did not play as often as he'd of hoped mainly due to the form of more experienced players such as Gus MacPherson and Ally Mitchell. He was also involved in an alleged incident involving the theft of a Cadbury's Creme Egg from a Troon Petrol Station which eventually led to him joining Blackpool.

He then joined Chester after the club were promoted back to the Football League in 2004 and was a first-choice player for much of his first three years at the club, although he quite often missed games because of injury and suspension problems. The most notable was a five-match ban at the start of the 2006-07 season after an incident in the home game against Stockport County the previous season.[1] Hessey has proved to be a versatile player, operating in both central defensive and full back roles and also in a holding midfield spot.

Chester manager Bobby Williamson, who managed Hessey at Kilmarnock, placed him on the transfer window in the summer of 2007. He has not figured in the Chester 16-man matchday squad in any game so far this season and was allowed to join League Two rivals Macclesfield Town on November 10, 2007 in a two-month loan. In January 2008, this was extended until the end of the season.[2] and at the end of the season he was released by Chester.[3]
