[edit] Spending scandal
After media inquiries concerning the mayor's spending habits, Harvey resigned as mayor in July, 2005. In August of the following year, Harvey admitted his guilt in breaching the public trust by using the city's credit card on 90 occasions between February 2003 and June 2005, running up bills totalling nearly $14,000. Misuse of funds included personal meals and trips, including a vacation to Las Vegas.[1]
In September, 2006, Harvey was sentenced to one-year conditional sentence, including six months of house arrest and six months under strict curfew.[2]
On October 3, 2007, Harvey was charged with an additional five counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count of forgery. He pled guilty to two counts and was sentenced to nine months in jail and ordered to repay his former business partner $41,000 of the total he fraudulently received.[3]
