Sean Leslie Garrity is a fictional firefighter on the FX drama Rescue Me. The character is played by Steven Pasquale.
Garrity is a young firefighter, who has been with the FDNY for several years. He was a probie during the 9/11 attacks, and was at Ground Zero, with most of the other members of his crew.
Garrity is considered by the other firefighters to be relatively dumb. However, his personal life has arguably undergone the least turmoil during the series. He is characterized by members of the firehouse as "the head of, well, all things stupid".
The other members of the firehouse mock him jokingly, stating that he resembles a monkey, which concerns Garrity. They also encourage Garrity to date a woman who they know to be a transgender. In an episode of the third season, Garrity accidentally took four Ambien, then proceeded to sleep-eat his way through a grocery store, and sleep-insult several of the customers.
Garrity is also a good man, who generally knows the boundaries of right and wrong. At the start of the third season, he has begun dating Tommy's sister Maggie Gavin. The two hide their relationship at first, fearing that Tommy would over-react, as he had in the past when Maggie had begun dating a friend of Tommy's. However, Tommy was not angry when he learned of the relationship, merely warning Garrity that his sister was "completely insane." Maggie is not interested in making the relationship serious until Garrity punches another boyfriend of Maggie's. Garrity breaks up with Maggie midway through the third season, but the two reconcile at her brother Johnny Gavin's funeral. The two immediately marry at the cemetery.
Garrity's marriage to Maggie is tumultuous to say the least. He is offended by her large collection of pornography and her destructive drinking habits. They both agree to divorce, less than a year into the marriage. Garrity decides to move in with Mike the Probie, and then accidentally sets his house on fire.
