[edit] Character Overview
Seamus O'Reily is a fictional character on the HBO prison drama, Oz. He was played by Kevin Conway. He is the father of inmates Ryan and Cyril O'Reily. Seamus was an alcoholic who abused his sons physically and emotionally when they were growing up and their behavior is probably the result of this abuse.
[edit] Season 3
Seamus is first seen at Season 3, during the Boxing Matches. Ryan called Seamus to an "urgent visit". When discovered that Cyril was boxing, Seamus started mocking Cyril. When Cyril asked him to stop, Seamus slapped him. During the fight between Cyril and Muslim leader Hamid Khan, Ryan ordered Cyril to imagine that Khan is Seamus. Cyril knocked-out Khan, causing cerebral damage and, after some time, his death.
[edit] Season 4
Seamus visits Ryan and confirms that Suzanne Fitzgerald is indeed Ryan's mother.
[edit] Season 5
In Season 5, we discover that Ryan and Cyril were only half brothers and Ryan meets his biological mother, Suzanne Fitzgerald, who also grew close to Cyril, despite having no relationship to him. We also discover that Ryan had a sister, who Seamus shook to death right in front of Ryan. Following Father Daniel Meehan's advise, Ryan finally confronts his father about this and vows to kill him if he ever leaves Oz.
[edit] Season 6
In Season 6, Seamus himself is arrested and comes to Oz. Jealous about the relashionship between inmate Jahfree Neema and his ex-girlfriend Suzanne Fitzgerald, Seamus asked Aryan leader Vernon Schillinger to kill Neema. Schillinger (Skillinger, as Seamus called him) declined, and Seamus tried to do it himself. In the delivery room, Seamus tried to stab Neema, but he got stabbed instead. In the hospital, Seamus didn't want to see Cyril before his execution. When he decided he wants to see the son, it was too late. Seamus begs his living son for forgiveness which, shockingly, Ryan does.
